How is the price of catalysts determined?

Many customers selling used catalysts for the first time ask the same question: how is their value actually determined? Do we buy catalysts based on the code?

The short answer is no. Catalyst codes can provide general information about the manufacturer or model, but they do not show the exact amount of precious metals. In practice, the same code can have different compositions depending on wear, usage conditions, production differences, and changes in internal structure.

For this reason, to ensure an accurate and fair evaluation, we purchase catalysts based on actual material analysis, not codes.

What is XRF analysis?

The value of catalysts is determined using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis. This is a modern, non-destructive method that allows precise measurement of platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), and rhodium (Rh) content in the material. XRF analysis is fast and accurate, requiring minimal preparation. The results are sufficient to objectively evaluate the material’s value, and the process takes only a few minutes.

To ensure the most accurate evaluation, we follow a clear and transparent process. After receiving the catalysts, they are first crushed to create a uniform material composition. Depending on the quantity, samples are taken to represent the entire batch accurately. Then XRF analysis is performed, and based on the results and current precious metal market prices, a price offer is provided.

How is the process?

It is important to note that the entire process is open to the customer. To ensure transparency and build long-term relationships, we offer the opportunity to participate in every stage — from crushing and sampling to the analysis itself. This allows customers to clearly see how the value is determined and trust the final result.

Our goal is not only to purchase catalysts, but also to ensure that every customer receives a fair offer based on real value. By relying on accurate data rather than assumptions or general references, we can offer a price that reflects the true material content and current market conditions.

The price of catalysts is not determined by codes or visual inspection. It is based on analysis, actual precious metal content, and the current market situation. This approach ensures a transparent process and the most accurate value for the customer.

Is it possible to participate in the process?

Yes, of course. We value transparency and long-term cooperation, so clients can:

  • monitor the grinding process
  • to participate in sampling
  • see the analysis in progress
